Chamber of Commerce celebrates SRC Campaign

Wednesday, July 28th, 2010

A victory party was held Tuesday night at the Virginia Beach Convention Center for the Hampton Roads Chamber of Commerce and their Sustainable Resources Campaign (SRC).  LMX conference coordinator, Nicole Newsome, attended to offer her congratulations.

The SRC is an annual, time limited, resource drive for the Hampton Roads Chamber of Commerce.  The campaign utilizes corporate volunteers to involve members and the community in the Chamber through membership, sponsorship and advertising sales.  This effort raises needed cash and trade resources to provide programs, services and publications that best serve the Hampton Roads Chamber of Commerce membership.

LMX is pleased to partner with the local Chamber to offer a special discount code to its membership.  Likewise, the Chamber committed to support LMX with a Gold sponsorship.  Dedicated to creating economic prosperity and enhancing the quality of life in the region, the Hampton Roads Chamber of Commerce represents nearly 2,000 member companies that employ more than 280,000 working men and women.  Since 1801, the Hampton Roads Chamber of Commerce has been building a stronger economy and a better business community.

To exhibit or not to exhibit?

Tuesday, July 27th, 2010

As LMX has partnered with Pilot Media, Cox Media, Executive Lifestyle Magazine and other sponsors, another vital part of this event is the EXHIBITOR!

Tradeshow exhibiting can be one of the most profitable and cost-effective means for promoting your company and its products and services.  Ask yourself, would you benefit from having access to hundreds of business owners and marketing directors who are extremely qualified?  Remember, LMX attendees have paid a registration fee to learn more about marketing and how better to spend their marketing dollars.

If you are considering being an exhibitor, think about the potential new customers you may meet at Local Marketing Expo.  It is also an opportunity to strengthen bonds with current clients.  Exhibiting is a chance for your business to share special promotions and the latest innovations with the business community.  Exhibiting is a “hands on” experience with visitors to offer immediate feedback on your products and services.  Wondering if that new product is going to be well received?  LMX Expo may be a great testing opportunity.

Benefits of exhibiting at LMX are two full access tickets to LMX, company profile and link on the Local Marketing Expo website, and visibility from the event blog and social media.  Can you afford not to feature your business at the largest marketing event of the year in Hampton Roads?

The answer to the question is TO EXHIBIT!

Did You Say Local?

Monday, June 21st, 2010

Local Marketing Expo is not solely about Hampton Roads’ marketing. LMX is focusing on ‘your’ local market wherever you generate business. LMX 2010 is utilizing local marketing experts and local companies that have thrived in this challenging economy.

One of our partners, Retail Alliance, is actively working to promote a “buy local” campaign. You are probably aware of the fact that small businesses employ just over half of the country’s private sector workforce. Such enterprises also represent 97.3% of all the exporters of goods and 99.7% of all employer firms.

Furthermore, buying locally can help produce more income, jobs, and tax receipts for local communities than dollars spent with big box stores. Local businesses are more likely to utilize local ads, banks and other services. Local businesses donate more money to nonprofits and are more accountable to their local communities. Supporting local businesses can preserve the economic diversity of our communities and the unique character of our neighborhoods. And, supporting local businesses can be good for the environment because it can cut down on fuel consumption. Buying locally produced goods can reduce the need to ship goods from thousands of miles away and can also cut down on the distances shoppers travel.

There is a new opportunity to promote buying locally in Virginia. Senator Yvonne Miller is sponsoring legislation that will create a “buy local” specialty Virginia license plate. In order to secure the plate, Retail Alliance must submit 350 pre-paid applications. Upon presentation of the applications to the Virginia Department of Motor Vehicles, delivery of the plates should be no later than October 1, 2010. If fewer than 350 applications are collected by July 1, 2010, all funds will be returned by July 10, 2010. For more information on a “buy local” license plate, contact Retail Alliance.

Visit the Retail Alliance booth at Local Marketing Expo, September 29. Stop by and learn more about “buying local” and local business!

Are you a referral marketer?

Wednesday, May 5th, 2010

Referral marketing is a structured process that maximizes the concept of ‘word of mouth’. Referral marketing does this by informing, promoting, encouraging and rewarding contacts and customers to talk and think as much as possible about your company, products and services. These contacts and customers will tell your story and how much value and benefit your company brings to them and the people they know.

This takes ‘word of mouth’ from a spontaneous conversation to a proactive, productive situation where maximum referrals are generated.  The truth is that referral networking is becoming an accepted and important marketing strategy in local business. The reason for this is simple; it works.

How many of your business cards are sitting in your desk? Handing out three cards to every one of your happy clients with a referral incentive would be a better way to use them, right?

Need more accountability? BNI is the largest business networking organization in the world. They offer members the opportunity to share ideas, contacts and most importantly, business referrals through a local chapter. BNI is structured and only allows one profession per group. Members commit to an annual membership and weekly meetings. The philosophy is “Givers Gain®”: By giving business to others, you will get business in return.” BNI is a brilliant model of actively marketing to other business professionals and building a relationship with them to generate qualified leads.

Make sure you visit the BNI exhibit at Local Marketing Expo. Explore the possibility of being a referral marketer.
