President, Pilot Media
Maurice A. Jones is President of Pilot Media, the largest print, digital and direct marketing organization in Hampton Roads. Pilot Media’s businesses include The Virginian-Pilot, Pilot Direct, Pilot Interactive and Targeted Publications + Media. Mr. Jones serves as President and Publisher of The Virginian-Pilot, the locally owned and managed newspaper founded in 1865.
Mr. Jones joined Landmark Media Enterprises, owner of Pilot Media, in 2005, serving as Vice President of the Landmark Publishing Group, consisting of The News & Record in Greensboro, NC; The Roanoke Times; The Capital Gazette in Annapolis, MD; and Landmark Community Newspapers, Inc., based in Shelbyville, Ky. In 2006 Jones joined Pilot Media as Vice President and General Manager. He became President and Publisher of The Virginian-Pilot in 2008.
Mr. Jones’ previous experience includes serving as Commissioner for the Virginia Department of Social Services, Deputy Chief of Staff for the Office of the Governor of Virginia, a Partner in Venture Philanthropy Partners serving the Washington, DC metropolitan area, and Legal Counsel, Deputy Director for Policy and Programs and Director of CDFI Fund, U.S. Department of the Treasury, Washington, DC.
Mr. Jones earned a Bachelor of Arts from Hampden Sydney College, a Master of Philosophy in International Relations, St. John’s College, Oxford University, and a Juris Doctor, University of Virginia School of Law. He is a Virginia native.
