Television talk show host, Toiya Sosa, was born Toiya Adair Poole, on December 13, 1975, in Morristown, NJ. A 34-year veteran of Portsmouth, VA, Sosa attended Manor High School and graduated from Norfolk State University with a bachelor’s degree in Mass Communications, News and Public Affairs. She is currently pursuing a Master’s Degree in Marketing at Strayer University.
After interning at WAVY News 10 in the news department, Sosa was offered a job as an Assignment Editor and Associate Producer while in her freshman year in college. Shortly thereafter, Sosa became a freelance writer for The New Journal & Guide, and host of her own talk show entitled, “Perspectives,” on the college radio station, WNSB 91.1 FM.
After having worked in television, radio and print, Sosa decided to explore the Public Affairs industry. She began a career at GEICO in the sales and service departments, and was soon asked to establish and maintain a new Regional Public Affairs and Community Relations department. Sosa was soon promoted to Public Affairs and Community Relations Manager. In this position, Sosa works as the liaison between GEICO and over 30 charitable organizations, building the bridge between GEICO and the community. Sosa also handles media and government relations for the company, working closely with GEICO Corporate Communications and various media groups, and local legislators across the states of Virginia and North Carolina.
While working at GEICO, Sosa was crowned Mrs. Virginia-America 2001. Her platform was cancer awareness.
As host of the Hampton Roads LIVE segment, “Youth – The Misunderstood Generation,” Sosa knows firsthand some of the problems facing our youth. Sosa is a former Youth Praise Dance Minister of Christian Temple United Church of Christ. As a Youth Minister, Sosa became counsel to the youth, oftentimes talking them through life challenges.
Sosa is now a member of Grove Church in Portsmouth, VA, where she serves on the Media and Fellowship Teams.
Sosa truly believes in community, church, and family. She currently serves on the following boards and committees within the community:

Chairperson of Urban League of Hampton Roads “Speak Now! Act Now!” Symposium
Chairperson of DRIVE SMART Virginia Advisory Group
Sosa also graduated from the Lefcoe Leadership Program and the United Way’s Project Inclusion Class. Both programs train individuals how to serve effectively on boards and committees in the community.
Sosa is mother to four-year-old Elani Camille Sosa and eight-year-old Alex Giovanni Sosa.
